The Devil and Tom Walker

In the story "The Devil and Tom Walker" i can infer that "Old Scratch" is the devil because The story said that Old Scratch appeared as a giant with red eyes and dark skin. This is an indirect inference because that is how the devil is frequently depicted. I can also infer that Tom walker and his wife were greedy because in the text it says "He loved only one thing -- money." and "That was his wife. She also loved money." This is a direct inference because out of the story it says that they loved money. Another inference is that Absalom Crowninshield is captain Kidd because he had a lot of money and it was said that he got it the same way Captain Kidd did. this is an indirect inference because of what people said.

One of the themes in this story is Greed. I feel this is a theme because Tom Walker tried to make a deal with the devil for money and got sent to hell. This theme also applies to his wife because she tried to get all the treasure to her self by going to the devil first and was never heard from again. Another theme in this story is dont try to cheat your way out of an aggreement. I feel that this is also a theme because Tom Walker thried to cheat his wayout of his agreement by going to church and always keeping a bible and the devil got him when he didint have is things with him.

Themes: Stellaluna

One of the themes in this story is even though everyone has differences you can always find a way to fit in. i feel that the author was trying to tell us that by Stellaluna doing everything that the birds did such as: eating bugs even know she did not like them, she ate them so that she would fit in. i think the author was trying to show us that even though Stellaluna was lost she stayed positive and found her way back to her mom. I feel the moral of the story is even though we all have our differences we still have the same basic needs and wants such as love and family.
